When you think of curry, Japan might not be the first country to come to mind, but the dish has existed in Japan since the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) and has been popular in the country for many years. Nowadays, the Shimokitazawa Curry Festival refers to itself as a "high level" curry festival. Every October curry sellers gather in this Tokyo neighborhood to provide delicious curry to the masses, with 2019 bringing us 150 different shops selling curry over the course of a full 13 days. That's almost two weeks of delicious, spicy curry (and some mild, savory curry as well)! Aside from food, there are always lots of fun activities of all kinds for curry fans, so bring friends or the family, and have a good time celebrating this tasty dish.
Also, don't miss your chance to meet the festival's gold-clad mascot, "Curry Man". You won't be able to miss his metallic gold outfit and kingly hat.
