This fascinating festival based out of the Kushida Shrine in Fukuoka is all about huge festival floats, including giant 10m (33ft) tall kazariyama floats that are simply too big to move around the city, and the still unwieldy 5m (16ft) kakiyama floats, weighing in at a full ton. These floats have no motor, or even wheels! But the main event of the festival is a race where the kakiyama floats are pulled through the streets using pure human muscle, a true site to behold.
