National Treasure: Frolicking Animals (Exhibition) (Tokyo) Apr 13, 2021 - May 30, 2021

You may not know the official name "Choju Giga," but you've almost certainly seen the traditional Japanese illustrations containing wild animals like rabbits and frogs freely frolicking, and engaging in awfully human-like activities like fishing or wrestling. These fun illustrations originate from a set of four picture scrolls that belong to Kyoto's Kozanji Temple, and all four of them will be shown together at this Tokyo exhibition, alongside some replicas of areas now lost from the original scrolls. Don't miss the chance to see what is sometimes referred to as Japan's first ever manga!
