柳宗悦没後60年記念展「民藝の100年」
A little under a century ago, art critic and philosopher Yanagi Muneyoshi coined the tern "mingei" to describe Japan's abundant world of folk crafts, and in doing so, he started a movement. This exhibition comes 60 years after Yanagi's death, to celebrate the beauty of the hand-crafted art that he promoted, and the way the Mingei movement evolved throughout the years. Check out this exhibition to admire a variety of Mingei pieces, including ceramics, textiles, woodwork, straw garments, baskets, colanders, and other functional items, plus folk paintings from the collections of Yanagi and other Mingei supporters. And learn more about the movement through a selection of photos, videos, and publications from the time when Mingei was just arriving on the scene!
