Tokyo Metropolitan Collection Exhibition-Records and Memories of Ueno
Nov 17, 2021 - Jan 06, 2022
東京都コレクションでたどる〈上野〉の記録と記憶
These days, the Ueno area of Tokyo is known for Ueno Park, and the popular museums and zoo found within, which attract sightseers throughout the year. But this neighborhood in Tokyo's "shitamachi" (known for working-class origins) has a long history, including samurai battles in centuries past and the establishment of the popular Ameyoko market, and as Ueno has evolved into the lively hangout spot we see today - full of shops, bars, and restaurants - this has set the for a diverse variety of people and events over the years. This exhibition features 60 or so works of art and historical documents that showcase all things Ueno, from the area's many charms to the history that makes it unique!
