Ukiyo-e Theater from Paris (Exhibition) (Saitama) Oct 30, 2021 - Apr 10, 2022

浮世絵劇場 from Paris

Ukiyo-e is the quintessentially Japanese style of block print that came into the spotlight during Japan's Edo period (1603-1868), when it's said that each of the prints sold for about the price of lunch. But the widespread popularity of this modern new art, which depicted daily life around Japan, helped Ukiyo-e find popularity all over the world. In the 19th century, the prints found their way to Europe just in time to inspire a generation of impressionists, changing European art forever. So perhaps it's no surprise that this Japanese art exhibition is actually produced by the Parid-based collective Danny Rose Studio.

Walking into this exhibition really feels like walking into a work of art, as digital projection helps bring the works to life, and images cover the walls, dance along the floor, and move all around you. It's a must-see for any fan of Japanese art who wants to dive right in!
