Le Château de Zakimi, plus de 600 ans d’histoire
Afin de comprendre l’origine du Château de Zakimi remontons à l’Epoque Sanzan (三山, signifiant trois montagnes et représentant les trois royaumes se divisant l’île d’Okinawa). Le château aurait été érigé sous les ordres du samuraï Gosamaru (護佐丸) et est aujourd’hui classé Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO depuis Novembre 2000.
Le Château de Zakimi se trouve à quelques kilomètres du Village Onna dans la partie centrale de l’île d’Okinawa. Il ne reste aujourd’hui que les ruines du château mais il reste tout de même apprécié des touristes pour son côté historique.

Un Lieu Photogénique
Vous vous demandez sûrement pourquoi les ruines sont si bien conservées? Le château n’a à vrai dire jamais subit de guerre depuis sa construction. Bien qu’il y ait eu des dégâts lors de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale, les remparts ont été remis en état par la suite.
Aujourd’hui le lieu n’est fréquenté que par les touristes. Passez-y et découvrez une bribe de l’histoire du Royaume Ryūkyū.
Avant et pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale le château fut utilisé comme site canonnier par les Japonais puis comme site de repérage radar par les forces américaines. Certains des murs avaient alors été détruits pour installer les équipements radar. Heureusement depuis, tout a été remis à l’état d’origine.

International skiiers are especially fond of Zao Onsen Ski Resort and Gassan Ski Resort, and in recent years visitors have been drawn to the area to see the mystical sight of local frost-covered trees. Some destinations are popular regardless of the season, like Risshakuji Temple, AKA Yamadera, Ginzan Onsen's nostalgic old-fashioned streets, and Zao's Okama Lake, all great for taking pictures. Yamagata is also the place to try Yonezawa beef, one of the top 3 varieties of wagyu beef.

Kagoshima Prefecture played a major role in Japan's modernization as a backdrop for famous historical figures like samurais Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi, who pushed Japan out of the Edo era and into the Meiji. Because of that, Sengan-en Garden is just one of many historical destinations, and when it comes to attractions Kagoshima has plenty: the active volcano of Sakurajima, popular hot springs Ibusuki Onsen and Kirishima Onsen, World Heritage Site Yakushima Island, even what Japan calls the "island closest to heaven," Amami Oshima.
