Fuji Rock is the largest outdoor music festival in Japan, and it’s been a reliable gathering place for music lovers since 1997. The very first Fuji Rock Festival was held in the highlands near Mt. Fuji, which is where the festival’s name and logo come from, but in recent years the venue has changed to a picturesque ski resort in northwestern Japan. (Of course, they kept the cool name!) The festival routinely attracts over 100,000 visitors, who come together from all over the world to camp out, enjoy the lush green mountainside, and enjoy a lineup peppered with Japan’s hottest rock stars and supported by a selection of popular artists pulled from the international music scene.
The 2025 festival features a number of international stars, from Vampire Weekend to Fred Again.., but Japanese music lovers will be impressed by the wide variety of Japanese artists on the roster, which includes everyone from Miyavi and Radwimps to Vaundy and Creepy Nuts! Held spread out across venues in the Tokyo suburbs and stretched out over the course of multiple weekends, this luxuriously lengthy music festival has been around for twenty years, and it’s not going away anytime soon. Rock in Japan is particularly popular among Japanese pop fans, and the lineup is always packed full of the biggest j-pop artists of the year, leaving fans waiting with bated breath for each year’s list of participants! Genres can vary wildly, but the festival is all about Japanese music, and the 2025 lineup includes some major names. ③ Summer Sonic 2025: An International Music Festival Split Between Tokyo & Osaka

Held simultaneously in both the Tokyo area and Osaka every year, Summer Sonic aims for a 50/50 split between Japanese and foreign artists, and the result is a truly eclectic lineup. Representing Japan in 2025 you have artists like Official Hige Dandism, Hyde, Band-Maid, and Yuuri. Non-Japanese artists include everyone from Fall Out Boy to Alicia Keys, plus plenty of other notable names like Bloc Party and Camila Cabello. The foreign lineup isn’t limited only to artists from the English-speaking world, either, with the Thai boy band BUS also making an appearance. The two-day festival generally splits the major headliners between Tokyo and Osaka, having them switch cities on the second day, so you can see most of the big names above in either region. The schedules aren’t 100% the same, though – take a good look at the official website to figure out if the lineup in either Tokyo or Osaka appeals to you more!
