The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- Special Exhibition:
A New Era & a New Collaboration for Gundam

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is a bold new experiment for the Gundam franchise, bringing together Studio Khara, best known for its work on Evangelion, and Sunrise, the anime studio synonymous with Gundam. This collaboration alone has ignited global anticipation, helping the pre-broadcast theatrical cut “The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” draw crowds to theaters across Japan. But with the promise of a whole anime series featuring a fresh new story in an alternate version of the Universal Century timeline, Gundam fans are abuzz with excitement, reveling in the premise of an alternate universe where (spoiler!) Char Aznable becomes the pilot of the RX-78-02 White Gundam instead of Amuro Ray. Or in other words, some major plot shifts occur right from the start.
This free exhibition, being held for a limited time at Anime Tokyo Station in Ikebukuro, invites visitors to dive into this exciting new Gundam AU and witness the fusion of styles and philosophies from two animation powerhouses at the same time. (And rock out to the opening theme by Kenshi Yonezu, too!)

Exhibition Highlights for Gundam Fans
Life-Sized Standees of Challia Bull, Shuji, and the Rest!

For those who want to feel like they’ve stepped right into the series, life-size standees of characters new and old are placed throughout the venue, offering a vivid sense of presence and scale – and perfect for photo ops, too.

If you believe one of the most surprising and exciting developments in GQuuuuuuX is the reimagining of Challia Bull, once a fleeting figure and now an important but mysterious presence, you’ll be happy to see that this charismatic silver fox can be found right at the heart of the exhibition!
Rare Production Materials

The exhibit also features behind-the-scenes looks at the craft and collaborative passion required to create a new chapter in the Gundam legacy. Catch the interview clips with anime producers and designers, and get a rare glimpse into the creative process with an exhibit of unique treasures, including original scripts from scriptwriter Hideaki Anno and production notes. Photography is off-limits for these, so you’ll have to go see for yourself!
Key Scene Stills & Recreations

Visitors can get a closer look at the cinematic flair of the latest Gundam productions through the huge prints of anime stills, plastering the walls with iconic moments and climactic battles, and recreating the backdrops from the show’s most pivotal confrontations. These frames show off the stunning animation quality while also hinting at the complex character building and narrative depth found in the latest edition of Gundam, just as fans have come to expect from the franchise.

Viewers will know that part of the appeal of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX emerges from the complicated relationships that evolve between the protagonists Amate (Machu), Nyaan, and Shuji. Not only do the gallery walls within the exhibition highlight the raw emotions of their character arcs, but realistic physical recreations of the animated settings make it feel like you could walk right into a scene from the anime!
AR Photo Zone

Last but not least, the exhibition includes a special AR photo corner where visitors can “dress up” as their favorite character, an interactive feature you’ll only find at this Anime Tokyo Station event. Try on Amate’s hat (in digital form, of course), or see what you might look like with Challia Bull’s rather majestic facial hair, and don’t forget to snap a photo or two to commemorate the experience.
Mobile Suit Gundam Merchandise

Of course, no anime exhibition experience in Japan is complete without a trip to the gift shop. This special exhibition offers a wide selection of Mobile Suit Gundam merchandise, and there are even displays of some of the items in the final exhibition room. The cute stuffed toys of all the main characters are bound to be popular, as are the little acrylic stands, but the enamel pins are a great subtle nod to your favorite otaku fandom.

If you buy or bring along your favorite Gundam character, make sure to take a picture at one of the dedicated photo spots!
