Kichijoji
Just 15 minutes from Shinjuku, Kichijoji offers a rarely accessible mix of calm, creativity, and authentic Tokyo charm. Regularly ranked as one of Tokyo’s most desirable neighborhoods to live in, it’s ideal for travelers looking to experience the city like a local. Plus, most spots are clustered near Kichijoji Station, so you can make the most of your visit without turning yourself out.
Morning: Coffee & Inokashira Park

From Kichijoji Station, head out the Park Exit to grab breakfast at Sarutahiko Coffee or Sunday Vegan before continuing on to Inokashira Park, one of Tokyo’s best green spaces. Stroll by the pond, visit Inokashira Benzaiten Shrine, and if the water calls, rent a swan boat (from ¥800)!
Lunch: Top-Tier Ramen

Head back toward the station for lunch at one of two highly rated ramen shops in the area. Maji does a refined Shio Tai Ramen, made with a sea bream salt broth, while Dokutsuya offers hearty bowls of iekei ramen. Both are popular, so if you can, get there early to avoid lines.
Afternoon: Ghibli Museum or Shopping
Option 1: Ghibli Museum

Managed to snag some of Tokyo’s most highly sought-after tickets? Then walk through Inokashira Park or hop on the train to nearby Mitaka to get to the Ghibli Museum, and explore Hayao Miyazaki’s whimsical worlds.
Option 2: Kichijoji Shopping

Head north of Kichijoji Station to shop in peace at Loft, Muji, Parco, Animate, Uniqlo, and any number of stylish Japanese boutiques. If you’re shopping with kids, or just love Japan’s cute characters yourself, you’ll want to stop by Chara Park Kichijoji (キャラパーク) in Coppice Mall to see the huge selection of cute merchandise curated by Kiddyland.
Snack Break: Local Bites

Browse Sun Road Shopping Street to try local favorites with bold flavors and satisfying portions., like Satou’s Menchi-katsu (¥350) or Kagozo’s Nikuman (¥380).
Evening: Kichijoji Nightlife

Wrap up your day in Kichijoji at Harmonica Yokocho, an atmospheric alley of izakaya bars. Try a steaming dish of oden and wash it down with a lemon sour! Top spots include Mitsuboshi, Tetchan, and Apron, but nearby you’ll also find Iseya, which offers classic street-side yakitori!
