New Crayon Shin-chan manhole covers in Shin-chan's Saitama hometown feature colorful anime designs, found at five locations near Kasukabe Station!

Beloved Anime Characters Now Brighten the Streets of Saitama
Fans of Crayon Shin-chan have a new reason to visit the city of Kasukabe in Saitama Prefecture. The city that inspired the long-running manga and anime has unveiled colorful new manhole covers featuring Shin-chan and his family, adding another cool spot for anime fans exploring this anime pilgrimage destination near Tokyo.
Celebrating the Home of Shin-chan
Crayon Shin-chan first aired on Japanese television in the 1990s and follows the mischievous adventures of five-year-old Shin-chan, his family, and friends in Kasukabe. To mark the unveiling, Kasukabe held a ceremony at city hall featuring a Shin-chan mascot, who greeted children and posed for photos with attendees. Mayor Kazuhiro Iwaya welcomed the new attraction by saying he hopes visitors “can get a real sense of Kasukabe, the town where Crayon Shin-chan lives.”
Two Colorful New Manhole Covers Around Kasukabe Station
The newly installed manhole covers come in two different designs, and alongside vibrant illustrations of Shinnosuke “Shin-chan” Nohara and his family, each one also incorporates Kasukabe’s official city flower, the wisteria. The two designs tie the beloved series and its iconic characters to the local community that inspired all the silly shenanigans. Visitors can now find the manhole covers in 5 different locations, all in the area surrounding Tobu Railway’s Kasukabe Station, making them easy to discover during a stroll through the city.
A New Stop for Anime Fans
For fans visiting the Tokyo area, the new manhole covers offer a fun excuse to get out of the big city, and experience the real-world suburban setting of one of Japan’s most iconic anime series. Combined with the other minor Crayon Shin-chan-themed attractions around Kasukabe, they’re a charming addition to an easy day trip from central Tokyo!
