Nagauta Shamisen Workshop (Tokyo)
(ONLY 9/15, 10/20, 11/17, 12/15, 1/19, & 2/16)
An event put on by the Arts Council of Tokyo, this workshop is a chance for foreign visitors to get a first look at the Japanese stringed instrument of shamisen. In particular, participants will learn about Nagauta music, which originated as kabuki accompaniment, and get a chance to strum a little themselves. Professional players are there to guide participants through the process, and also put on a performance to inspire the budding new musicians.
