2023 Wisteria Festival at Kameido Tenjin Shrine (Tokyo)
Apr 15, 2023 - May 05, 2023
亀戸天神 藤まつり
Kameido Tenjin Shrine was established back in the 17th century, in the days before Tokyo became the capital of Japan, as a shrine dedicated to the scholar god Tenjin. For most of the year, the shrine and its tranquil garden are most popular among students praying for good grades and high test scores. But every spring, crowds descend on Kameido Tenjin, and it's not just new students - these visitors are at the shrine for the Wisteria Festival (also called the Fuji Matsuri/藤まつり). From mid-April to early May the garden blooms with dangling purple flowers, hanging down from pergolas above the walkways or out over the garden pond. It's a must-see for flower lovers in Tokyo!
