This yearly ritual, held at Kyoto’s Kamigamo Shrine, is Japan’s oldest horseback archery ritual. Its history goes back about 800 years, and to this day you can still visit the shrine every October to see skilled archers take shots from atop their horses’ backs. It’s an unusual and fascinating event, and lots of fun to see these talented archery experts and their trusty mounts every fall.
