While ramen’s earliest forms originated in China, the dish has evolved into a unique and beloved part of Japanese cuisine, celebrated for its convenience and regional diversity. Despite its popularity, however, the ramen bowl that serves as the base for each serving is often taken for granted. This exhibition brings the bowl into the spotlight, inviting visitors to experience ramen through the lens of design and craftsmanship.

Exhibition Themes

This ramen exhibition consists of four parts: Ramen Past and the Present, Anatomy of Ramen and Ramen Bowls, Artist Ramen Bowls, and Production Centers of Mino Ware (Mino-yaki). Through these angles, the exhibition repositions the ramen bowl as a powerful storytelling medium, reflecting both tradition and innovation.

A total of 40 unique ramen bowls can be found at the heart of the exhibit, each crafted by artists inspired by the textures, forms, and spirit of ramen. Blending the concept of street food with sensory elements such as the sounds of the ramen experience, the exhibition immerses visitors in the cultural context of this beloved dish.

Ramen is often seen as fast food, but the bowl it’s served in is born from slow, deliberate craftsmanship. This event invites ramen lovers to think about the culinary culture, design concepts, and traditions that have given us this dish we love so dearly – don’t miss
