Discover Japan’s Winter Food Culture in Ueno

Ready for a taste of real local Japanese cuisine? Oden is savory, stuffed with different ingredients, and always steaming hot – a dish of simmering soy and dashi broth overflowing with flavorful fish cakes, daikon radish, tofu, meat, eggs, and more. Oden is the kind of food found in homes and restaurants around Japan each winter, and this February, you can try dozens of different kinds in Ueno Park, alongside the people of Tokyo.

The Oden & Regional Sake Festival will be offering a whopping 24 different kinds of oden during the festival period, coming to Tokyo from all over Japan to serve regional oden recipes using different broths and rare ingredients. Spend a day feasting to go from oden beginner to oden master.
Sample Regional Sake in Tokyo

This isn’t just an oden festival – you’ll also find a number of stalls serving different alcoholic beverages. The lineup includes sake from local breweries around Japan, but also regional whiskeys, Japanese craft beers, even plum wine and cocktail stands utilizing regional Japanese fruit! For drinkers age 20 and up, there’s a lot to see, and a lot to sip.
Find Japanese Festival Fun, Even in the Dead of Winter!

Young or old, visitors will love the classic Japanese festival atmosphere, and all the fun that comes with it! Alongside all the different kinds of oden, you’ll also find iconic Japanese festival food (karaage fried chicken, grilled squid, yakisoba) and some more unique eats (grilled oysters, beef skewers, soup dumplings, even churros). And squeezed in between the food and the drinks, the event will also include fun festival games! With stalls open from 10 in the morning until 9 at night (8 on the last day), this is the perfect place to get a real taste of winter in Japan.
