Hiroshi Nagai: “Summer Never Ends.” Tsutaju Premium Edition Exhibition & Sale (Kyoto)
For the Kyoto Autumn Event Calendar: Endless Summer Scenery
Together with a cool autumn breeze, eternal summer has arrived in Kyoto!

Now being held at Kyoto Tsutaya Books, the Hiroshi Nagai “Summer Never Ends.” Tsutaju Premium Edition Exhibition & Sale brings together around 30 works from the artist’s “Tsutaju Premium Edition” series, featuring ocean views, coastlines, swimming pools, and forests. This is the largest exhibition of the series to date, and between the vivid colors and Nagai’s distinctive compositions, the exhibition invites visitors into the artist’s own sun-soaked world of endless summer and resort-inspired scenery.
The venue is also offering Nagai’s latest art book, “Now and Then,” along with merchandise including signed secondhand vinyl records. Fans of Hiroshi Nagai will want to make the most of this rare opportunity to enjoy his work in person, and perhaps take home a favorite piece at the same time.
▶︎ Hiroshi Nagai Exhibition Highlights:
・Close to 30 “Tsutaju Premium Edition” works on display and available for purchase—the largest selection to date!
・Related books, art collections, signed secondhand vinyl records, and other merchandise available for sale.
・A special auction featuring a skateboard with Hiroshi Nagai’s signature and hand-drawn artwork.
Preserving Art for the Future Through Digital Technology

One of the main highlights of this exhibition is the “Tsutaju Premium Edition” collection, a series of high-definition reproduced artworks created using digital archiving technology developed for National Treasures, Important Cultural Properties, and works of art. Ultra-high-definition scanning technology makes it possible to preserve the fine colors, brushstrokes, and textures of the original artwork while also converting the work into digital data for archival storage. This approach not only gives more people a new way to experience art, but also helps preserve valuable works in their entirety and pass them on to future generations.
About Hiroshi Nagai

Hiroshi Nagai was born in Tokushima in 1947. After working as a graphic designer, he began his career as an illustrator in 1976 and has remained active ever since. During a period living in the United States, Nagai was deeply inspired by the scenery around him and gradually developed his distinctive style of illustrating summer landscapes. He has become widely known for his tropical imagery and clear, vivid use of color. His best-known works include the record covers for Eiichi Ohtaki’s “A Long Vacation” and “Niagara Song Book.” His illustrations have also been widely published in magazines, advertisements, and other media, leaving a lasting influence on both the fashion and music industries.
