Ayashii: Decadent and Grotesque Images of Beauty in Modern Japanese Art (Art Exhibition, Tokyo)
The art in this exhibition might be strangely alluring, unnervingly eccentric, or even a little bit suspicious, but Tokyo’s National Museum of Modern Art promises that once you see the exhibits, you sure won’t forget them. While the first word to come to mind may not be \”pretty,\” the \”ayashii\” (あやしい) pieces on display at this exhibition are going to leave you thinking deeply about art and how it makes you feel. While the focus is on Japanese art, you’ll also see pieces from Western artists who influenced the Japanese art world, like Alphonse Mucha.
