北斎花らんまん
With the blooming of the cherry blossoms, Japan’s most important flower-viewing season has arrived, and the people of Japan flock to parks and gardens all over the country to see the flowers as they have for centuries on end. Japan has long appreciated the seasonal beauty of nature, and artists like the famous Katsushika Hokusai have thus been inspired to depict these blooms of every shape and color in the traditional art that we now love to admire. Check out this exhibition at the Tokyo museum dedicated to Hokusai’s art, and find a whole garden’s worth of flowers in the 100 or so different artworks on display!
