This festival celebrating beautiful hydrangea bushes has been held at the Hakusan Shrine in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward every year since 1985 – except for a break in 2020~2021 for COVID safety measures. Fortunately, the event is back, so you can once again spend an afternoon enjoying the 3000 hydrangeas inside the shrine’s garden. This year’s event will include morning concerts, and an opportunity for dental consultations (!?), a tradition for the shrine. In previous years, the shrine’s “miniature Mt. Fuji” hydrangea garden has been opened to the public for a limited time, but this year visitors will just have to enjoy the view from the other side of the fence.
