The Numata Festival focuses on a parade full of portable shrines and festival floats in all sorts of shapes and sizes, proceeding down the streets of Gunma Prefecture. But the reason for its popularity are two shrines shaped like tengu, Japanese goblins with red faces and very long noses. These shrines are carried around by women only, and they’re quite a sight.
