The second floor has clothing, stationery, toys, and other miscellaneous goods, while the third floor also has a spacious food court where you can grab something to eat during your shopping spree.

How to Get to the Supermarket + What’s Nearby

Although Ito-Yokado Omori is slightly removed from central Tokyo, its proximity to Haneda Airport makes it a convenient shopping destination just after arriving in Tokyo or right before departing Japan. From Haneda Airport, take the Keikyu Line, and the store is just about three minutes on foot from Omorikaigan Station. If you’re using the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line, the store is about a seven-minute walk from Omori Station.

If you’re looking for a nice place to stay in Tokyo, accommodations around Omori tend to be relatively affordable in comparison with areas like Shinagawa and Shinjuku, while still offering convenient access to central Tokyo and Yokohama. In recent years, travelers have started to make the area home base during their time in Tokyo.

The Omori area is also home to some interesting attractions, including Shinagawa Aquarium, the Heiwajima Natural Hot Springs, and Oi Racecourse. You can spend the day sightseeing nearby, then stop at Ito-Yokado on the way back to the hotel to gather up some late-night snacks, dessert, or even breakfast for the following morning. Travelers who want to try flavors similar to Japanese home cooking should also look for dishes like grilled fish, yakitori, Japanese omelettes, and “tsukemono” pickles—all good for dinner, or with a beer. It’s a little like they brought a Japanese family dinner table right into the middle of a supermarket.

At Ito-Yokado Omori and other Tokyo-area locations, you might also find Fukagawa-meshi, a part of traditional Tokyo cuisine. The dish is rice cooked with clams and dashi broth, creating a rich seafood flavor that Tokyoites have been enjoying since Japan’s Edo period (1603-1868). That includes the Biore facial cleansers that were recently so popular on social media that they were difficult to get your hands on, and an extensive selection of popular Japanese shampoo and haircare brands, like “hiritu” and “+tmr”. With skincare, makeup, shampoo, haircare, OTC medicine, and other daily necessities, you don’t have to bother with a separate trip to a drugstore!

Snacks and Souvenirs

Ito-Yokado also has a section featuring popular Japanese snacks and souvenirs, like boxes of the Sugar Butter Sand Tree cookies (a recent favorite among travelers), which often include limited-edition flavors. During our visit, we found the cookies in seasonal Shine Muscat grape flavor! You can treat yourself, or bring them home as souvenirs—some other popular options include sweets from Mary’s Chocolate, instant noodles from the popular ramen chain Ichiran, and Tsujiri matcha snacks.

Another option is the sweets from Ito-Yokado’s private-label Hatojirushi, designed to “carry on the warmth of Japanese craftsmanship.” The products are made with particular attention paid to the ingredients, production methods, and quality, used to create traditional Japanese sweets like daifuku and rice crackers. They make for a sophisticated, distinctly Japanese souvenir, a little different from ordinary packaged snacks.

The Food Court

When all that shopping has worked up an appetite, take a break in the food court on the third floor. There are some standard fast-food options, and Japanese classics like udon, but one place that deserves particular attention is Ito-Yokado’s own fast-food shop: POPPO. The shop is only open at selected Ito-Yokado locations, and the prices are so reasonable that you might think you need new glasses at first. Much of the menu costs 500 yen or less, which means you can get yourself a whole satisfying meal with just one 500-yen coin.

Here you’ll find that same enormous serving of French fries we saw in the supermarket, so if you’re curious, you can try them freshly prepared in the food court, and then pick up some more on the first floor to bring back and snack on at your hotel.

Tax-Free Shopping

With a cart full of purchases, it’s finally time to check out! If you’re spending at least 5,500 yen (including tax) on products you won’t be consuming in Japan, like daily necessities and snacks purchased as souvenirs, remember to complete the tax-free procedures! Tax-free services at Ito-Yokado Omori are offered at the first-floor service counter, where you can simply present your passport and your purchases to complete the process. It’s easy enough, but the tax-free procedures can take some time, and the counter can get crowded shortly before the shop closes, so we recommend getting the tax-free procedure done at least an hour before that. Once everything is done, you can head back to your hotel to revel in your new purchases, from snacks and souvenirs to drugstore cosmetics. Enjoy your haul!
