With the movie and new episodes, the coming months will be a broadcast bonanza for Demon Slayer.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba film (full title "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train" or "劇場版「鬼滅の刃」 無限列車編" in Japanese) was a smash hit in Japan, where it brought COVID-19 confined audiences back into theaters, and set new records all around the world. And now, it's being brought to the small screen in homes around Japan. The full-length movie detailed the story of Tanjiro, Nezuko, and their Demon Slayer friends meeting hashira Kyojuro Rengoku on the Mugen Train, also called the Infinity Train. For broadcast purposes, the movie will be turned into a mini-season of 7 episodes, with the first episode airing on Sunday, October 10th at 11:15 pm on Fuji TV channels nationwide (and then again the next Saturday, October 16th on a handful of other channels and platforms). On top of just chopping the movie into bitesize episodes, the TV edition will include some extra content, particularly the brand new first episode featuring an adventure somewhere between Demon Slayer headquarters and the train station where the movie begins.
For fans who have already seen the movie, however, this next part might be the most exciting: beginning Sunday, December 5th (at 11:15 on Fuji TV, or the 11th on other channels), a brand new season will be airing weekly, following the team into Japan's seamy underbelly, hinted at in the title of this new second season, called the "Yukaku-hen" (遊郭編), or "Red Light District Volume."
For fans who missed the movie in theaters, and all the anime-obsessed viewers out there ready to absorb any and all new Demon Slayer content they can get their hands on, this is an exciting announcement. Not just the anime's long-awaited second season, but a movie-turned-mini-season as well! For those living in Japan, be sure to tune in starting October 10th, and for everyone else… well, look for it on Netflix some day soon!
