Japan’s Showa era lasted from 1926 to 1989 and represented a time of huge change in the country – which is probably why “Showa Retro” is a total buzzword in Japan these days, inspiring all kinds of nostalgic events and celebrations. This exhibition is diving deep into the material culture of the area, and how children grew up over the decades. The 250+ items featured in the exhibition include items for the very young (cradles, rattles, building blocks), toys beloved by school children (card games, arts and crafts items, pogo sticks!), and all the other exciting things needed for playtime in the Showa era.
