亀戸天神 藤まつり2024年
Kameido Tenjin Shrine was established in the 17th century as a shrine dedicated to the scholar god Tenjin, back in the days before Tokyo became the capital of Japan. And to this day, the shrine and its tranquil garden are popular among students praying for good grades and high test scores, and visitors arrive throughout the year. But every spring huge crowds descend on Kameido Tenjin, and it’s not just new students, because these visitors are all coming to the shrine for the famous Wisteria Festival (also called the Fuji Matsuri/藤まつり)! From mid-April to early May the shrine garden comes alive with dangling purple flowers, with long strands of vibrant blooms hanging down from pergolas above the walkways or out over the garden pond. It’s a must-see for flower lovers in Tokyo!
