See Monet at Tokyo’s Artizon Museum
Monet loved Japan, and it’s safe to say that Japan loves him back! To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the artist’s death, this special exhibition at the Artizon art museum in central Tokyo presents dozens of Claude Monet (1840–1926) masterpieces, and some of the art that gives his revolutionary landscapes context.

The exhibition traces the development of Monet’s artistic career through geography, while exploring the motivations behind his creative process. Walking through the space, each visitor has the chance to hone in on the places that most affected his creative process: Le Havre, Argenteuil, Vétheuil, and Giverny—and see how Monet’s work fits into the bigger picture.
Monet Exhibit Highlights

The exhibition features around 140 pieces, including more than 40 on loan from the Musée d’Orsay (which boasts the world’s most comprehensive Monet collection), giving visitors a chance to delve into the landscape of Monet’s own life. That includes iconic images of hazy sunsets, famous water lilies, snowy scenes, summer landscapes, and of course, portraits like the one featured on the poster.

For a little background, the exhibition also examines Monet’s inspirations and the artist’s legacy, drawing connections to contemporary paintings, photographs, ukiyo-e prints, and Art Nouveau crafts. The exhibit also features an audio guide accessible through your phone for more detailed explanations!
If you’re a big fan of the Impressionists, or just enjoy any deep dive into art history, this spring the Artizon Museum is offering art lovers a unique chance to explore the world of Monet!
