A Natural Japanese Hot Spring Spa That's inside a Tokyo Amusement Park!

About 12 minutes from Ikebukuro! Natural Hot Springs in Tokyo

Japan is a country of hot springs that brings many foreign tourists to visit while traveling in Japan. However, some of the most famous hot springs, such as Hakone, are located a bit out there so time and budget constraints are imminent at times.

This article is for those who want to go to a relaxing hot spring but don't want or able to travel out of Tokyo. Toshimaen Niwa-no-Yu (豊島園 庭の湯) is located within one of Tokyo amusement park Toshimaen and is only 12 minutes by train from Ikebukuro.

Be aware:
1. Children in middle school and below must be accompanied by a guardian over 20 years old.
2. Up to 8pm for middle school students and 9pm for high school students.
3. If you have a tattoo(s) or tattoo type sticker, you will be denied access to the hot springs/pools.

Toshimaen Niwa-no-Yu (豊島園 庭の湯)

  • The professional and super friendly counter staff will give you a pool bag with towels and will explain how the hot springs works. 
  • 1. The pool bag given to you with two towels inside. If you rent a bathing suit its also included.
  • 2. There are of course lockers in the changing room but there are also security lockers to store your valuables.
  • The key to your locker in the locker/changing room key should always be carried with you.
  • There are things available like hair dryers, skincare products, and even a big part of Japan's "hot springs culture" a vending machine of filled with fresh milk.
  • When you use the hot spring, you can return the bag to the counter.

Bath and Sauna Facilities

  • Japanese gardens surrounding open-air baths are not in short supply compared to any hot spring ryokan.
    They don't have cherry blossoms sadly, but during the fall the area is covered with beautiful autumn leaves in autumn, and sometimes snow in winter.

A Natural Hot Spring in Tokyo

Usually, small bathhouses and hot springs in cities bring in hot spring water from other local hot springs and heat up the water to use, but at Toshimaen Niwa-no-Yu, they use real hot spring water from around 1,445m underground Toshimaen! Apparently, they were digging and just came about natural hot springs water, which brought them to build a hot spring. 

Furthermore, there are various types of hot spring water here such as sodium hot spring (its main source) and carbonated hot spring. In particular, Niwa-no-Yu is most known for its sodium hot springs water which not only makes your skin feel smooth but has a thermal effect on your body. Then the carbonate springs promotes blood circulation and a good metabolism.

  • This is the pool area called "Bade Zone", which you can get to through both the male and female baths. It is set at a temperature of about 35℃ (95℉). This area also offers body massages! Here bathing suits are required, which is nice for those that do not feel comfortable being naked in public and for those who came with someone of the opposite sex and want to enjoy a hot spring them.
  • There is sun bed, and resort feeling can be done.
  • An outdoor hot spring surrounded by Japanese garden.
The carps swim in the pond and the small waterfalls are Japanese garden next to the outdoor hot springs.
Guests can also take a leisurely stroll here.

(There is a private slippers, so you must go out wearing slippers.)
  • For an additional cost, you can get a great foot massage which is the best after soaking in the hot springs.
  • Or if you would prefer, a traditional Thai massage is available. (additional cost)
  • In the Finnish sauna, use a towel five times a day to blow hot winds.

A steam room corner newly built under the influence of Korean hanjeungmak culture. Because the temperature is lower than that of a sauna and there is a room where you can lie down, even those who do not like the sauna can slowly sweat away. In the afternoon, you must register at the counter. In addition, the cost of the steam room is 500 yen on weekdays and 700 yen on holidays.
