Visit Tokyo’s Most Popular Cherry Blossom Viewing Picnic Spot
In the vibrant heart of urban Tokyo, tucked away right next to the concrete and glass of Shinjuku, Shinjuku Gyoen Garden stands out as a surprisingly serene oasis – and one of Tokyo’s top spots for enjoying springtime cherry blossoms. With countless cherry trees spread across its expansive grounds, this park is a favorite destination for “hanami” picnics. But to keep the park from entirely overcrowding, and preserve a little of the tranquil atmosphere, Shinjuku Gyoen enforces a visitor limit during the peak of cherry blossom season, every March and April.
Cherry Blossom Viewing Reservations

Available online via the official website, starting in early March, prior reservations are generally required to enter the park during “sakura season.” Be sure to book early, so you can make it into Shinjuku Gyoen at a time that works with your schedule, and savor a perfect spring day surrounded by the city’s sakura blooms!
