ふつうの系譜　〜「奇想」があるなら「ふつう」もあります─京の絵画と敦賀コレクション

What were the "ordinary" paintings in Edo-era Japan (1603-1868)? Due to the eye-catching nature of the fantastical and otherwordly art that came out of that era, art focused on more "mundane" subjects in the Edo period has sometimes lost out on the attention it's due, losing out to more shocking depictions. At this exhibition in Western Tokyo, the collection will introduce the many charms of "ordinary" art, focusing on the artists from the Tosa, Kano, and Maruyama-Shijo schools, who focused less on fantasy and more on beautiful technique. These painters brought beauty to the mainstream, and a walk through this exhibition is a tour of the beauties found in historic Japan.
