山王祭 2024年
The Sanno Festival started in the Edo Era as an annual festival of the Hie Shrine in Akasaka, and with support from the shogunate then in power, participants paraded through the city and even Edo Castle. The festival is still going strong today, and it’s now considered one of Japan’s “Three Great Festivals”! Modern-day visitors often come to admire the beautiful traditional outfits of festival participants, mikoshi shrines, and parade floats! Over the course of about 10 days, the Sanno Festival still starts at the Hie Shrine, and winds its way through the city as a parade of 500 people in traditional court costume.
