The new Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba movie is out to wild acclaim, and chapter 1 of the Infinity Castle Arc is breaking records!

Demon Slayer Continues Its Record-Breaking Streak in Japan
The latest film in the Demon Slayer anime franchise, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle” or “Mugen Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza’s Return,” has made an explosive box office debut in Japan. In just 10 days since its release, the film has attracted over 9 million movie-goers, and earned a staggering 12.87 billion yen (over 85 million USD) at the box office. With overwhelmingly positive reviews, word of mouth has seriously boosted the success of the already massively popular anime series, based on the globally acclaimed manga Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge (which has sold over 150 million copies across 23 volumes).
The “Infinity Castle Arc” or “Mugen Castle Arc” follows Tanjiro Kamado in the final stages of his journey to defeat the demon Muzan Kibutsuji, a desperate attempt to avenge his family and cure his demon sister Nezuko. The film joins Tanjiro and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps as they enter Muzan’s own lair, the Infinity Castle, and fight to discover the hiding demon and destroy him for good. Of course, despite the impressive run length of over two and a half hours, the Demon Slayer film released on July 18th, 2025 is far from reaching any major conclusions – instead, “Akaza’s Return” has been announced as the first installment of a trilogy.
The Fastest Film in Japanese History to Reach 10 Billion Yen, Surpassing Mugen Train
Within its first three days, the first Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie saw one of the most impressive viewer responses in Japanese box office history, with movie tickets selling out all over the country. Over a week in, the film’s momentum is only continuing to surge. By day 8, it had already crossed the 10 billion yen mark, drawing in 7.5 million viewers and earning 10.5 billion yen. This achievement makes it the fastest film in Japanese history to surpass 10 billion yen in box office sales, beating the previous record… set by the very same franchise.
In the midst of the COVID pandemic, the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train film is believed to have played a significant role in drawing the Japanese public back into movie theaters despite the prevalence of “stay home” culture, and the result was a film that earned 10 billion yen in just 10 days, even in October 2020.
The first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc is now on pace to become one of the highest-grossing anime films ever in Japan, further cementing Demon Slayer’s position as a cultural and box office juggernaut. With more dramatic storytelling and even a grand finale still to come, we can only wait and see what records the final Demon Slayer films will break!

Fukuoka Prefecture has the highest population on the southern island of Kyushu, with two major cities: Fukuoka and Kitakyushu. Thanks to growing transportation networks, Fukuoka is more accessible than ever, and so are the many local attractions. On top of historical spots like Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, travelers shouldn't miss Fukuoka's food scene, with motsu nabe (offal hotpot), mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and famous Hakata ramen―best eaten from a food stall in the Nakasu area of Hakata. Plus, it's full of all sorts of destinations for travelers, like trendy shopping centers, and the beautiful nature of Itoshima and Yanagawa.

Kagoshima Prefecture played a major role in Japan's modernization as a backdrop for famous historical figures like samurais Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi, who pushed Japan out of the Edo era and into the Meiji. Because of that, Sengan-en Garden is just one of many historical destinations, and when it comes to attractions Kagoshima has plenty: the active volcano of Sakurajima, popular hot springs Ibusuki Onsen and Kirishima Onsen, World Heritage Site Yakushima Island, even what Japan calls the "island closest to heaven," Amami Oshima. Kagoshima might be found on the very southernmost tip of the southern island of Kyushu, but there's plenty to see.

OKINAWA

The island chain of Okinawa (沖縄) makes up the southernmost tip of Japan, which is why it's also the most tropical area in the country. Thanks to a history of independence and totally distinct political and cultural events, Okinawa has a unique culture, and remnants of the Ryukyu Kingdom are still visible all over the islands. Food, language, traditional dress, it's all a little different! It's also said to be the birthplace of karate.
