Among travelers looking to find luxury in the midst of Hokkaido’s breathtaking beauty, MUWA NISEKO has been making a name for itself. The Hokkaido ski resort, tucked in among the slopes in the popular Japanese ski destination of Niseko, has once again been recognized by the Michelin Guide’s Hotel Selection in 2025.
Michelin Key Hotels in Japan
Introduced in 2024, the Michelin Key is a relatively new award that recognizes hotels that go above and beyond, offering exceptional stays and peak luxury. Much like the Michelin Stars awarded to restaurants, the Keys come in three tiers, highlighting hotels that stand out for their hospitality, design, and guest experience. Japan’s 2025 selection included traditional ryokan inns, stylish urban boutique hotels, countryside guest houses, and luxury resorts, for a total of 128 hotels, 101 of which were awarded one Key. Praised for offering a “special experience,” MUWA NISEKO has now earned one Michelin Key two years in a row.
A New Niseko Luxury Resort

At the foot of the Grand Hirafu slopes, MUWA NISEKO positions itself as a year-round destination for wellness, gastronomy, and outdoor activities – a modern take on the alpine retreat. Opened in December 2023, the hotel features 113 guest rooms, combining traditional Japanese design elements with contemporary touches. Signs of Japanese-style luxury can be seen throughout the facility, including the private open-air baths found in many of the guest rooms. Important for winter sports lovers, there’s also ski-in/ski-out access to Niseko’s largest ski area, the Grand Hirafu slopes, famous for fluffy powder snow.
Facilities include large infinity onsen baths with panoramic views of Mount Yotei, as well as a spa, ski rental shop, and multiple dining venues. The resort’s two restaurants focus on Japan’s unique variety of high-end cuisine – Sukiyaki Kappo Hiyama offers an upscale take on a Japanese hotpot classic, while HITO by TACUBO, helmed by Tokyo’s Michelin-starred chef Yoshinori Takubo, combines Hokkaido ingredients and Italian inspiration.

As the hotel enters its third winter season, MUWA NISEKO’s General Manager expressed gratitude for the continued recognition, adding that they “remain committed to improving their craft, so that guests from all over the world can feel at home and relax to their heart’s content” during their stay.
