Celebrate the beauty of spring in Tokyo at the Kameido Tenjin Shrine Wisteria Festival 2025 (or Fuji Matsuri/藤まつり), a period of just a few weeks when cascading purple blossoms transform this historic shrine into one of the city’s most breathtaking floral displays. From mid-April through early May, the shrine’s tranquil garden is draped in delicate strands of wisteria flowers, which bloom in long, fragrant curtains above walking paths and across the surface of the shrine’s central pond.
Founded in the 17th century, Kameido Tenjin Shrine was built to honor Tenjin, the Shinto god of scholarship. It remains a popular site for students praying for academic success, but during the wisteria season, it attracts visitors from around Tokyo (and the world) who come to marvel at the vibrant purple flowers in full bloom. Wooden pergolas overflowing with blossoms, scenic arched bridges, and peaceful waterside views make this one of Tokyo’s most photogenic spring festivals.
Located in the Koto Ward of Tokyo, the Wisteria Festival at Kameido Tenjin is a seasonal must-see for locals and tourists alike – especially for flower lovers and photographers looking to capture Japan’s natural elegance in full bloom!
