This event takes place in the town of Yunishigawa Onsen, historical site and setting for The Tale of the Heike, an epic account of the struggle between two major clans. The festival itself has been going on for 800 years, and now includes a night-time portion where the river is lit up in 7 colors (shinkawaakari), participants dressed as noble women, and a procession carrying an illustrated scroll of the famous Tale of the Heike.
