You’ve just arrived in Tokyo and you’re ready to see the sights, feast on fresh sushi, and shop till your wallet begs you to stop –  but first, before you can get started, you need to deal with that heavy suitcase you just dragged off the plane!

Until now, a luggage-laden journey to the hotel has been the first step for most trips to Japan. After all, even if you arrive early in the morning, you don’t want to be carrying suitcases around all day while you see the sights! For travelers who arrive in the evening ready to relax, trying to keep ahold of a big suitcase on Tokyo’s rush hour trains has always been an unavoidable nightmare. However, the hassle of heading to the hotel with luggage in hand is now a thing of the past. Visit the JAL ABC counter at Haneda Airport, and you can take advantage of their Same-Day Delivery Service instead! This convenient luggage delivery option will lift a weight off your shoulders (literally), so you can begin your Tokyo trip however you choose!

What Is Japan’s Same-Day Luggage Delivery Service?

Where to Find Same-Day Delivery Services at Haneda Airport

luggage delivery services at Haneda Airport

The Same-Day Delivery Service, designed to get your luggage to your hotel while you enjoy Tokyo the way you want, is available at the JAL ABC counter in Haneda Airport Terminal 3, located in the 2nd-floor Arrival Lobby. Just turn right after you exit the arrival gates, or turn left if you find yourself facing away from the train and information counters.

The signage isn’t particularly eye-catching, so the counter can be a little difficult to spot. Keep an eye out for a vertical banner emblazoned with the phrase “Same-day Delivery,” which is located to the right of the luggage reception area. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you spot the red logo of JAL ABC on the wall, behind the counter or above the monitors.

JAL ABC Counter
Location: 2nd Floor, Arrival Lobby, Terminal 3, Haneda Airport
Hours: 4:00 – 18:00 (4 am – 6 pm)
Fees: 4,500 yen per piece of luggage

How to Use the Delivery Service
Step 1: Scan the QR Code & Enter Your Information

When you arrive at the JAL ABC counter to drop off your luggage, you’ll notice a large QR code next to a tablet labeled “Same-Day Delivery Service.” The first step of the process is to use your phone and scan the QR code to open the registration page.

The form for registering your information is available in multiple languages, including English, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), and Korean, making it easy for anyone to use. After agreeing to the terms of service, you just enter all the information needed for a quick and efficient delivery: name/hotel guest name, hotel name, and number of suitcases, as well as your email address and credit card payment information. Once you’ve submitted the form, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code. Keep this QR code ready for the next step!

Tokyo Delivery Area
Luggage can be delivered to hotels in the following wards of Tokyo: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Shinagawa, Taito, Sumida, Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Meguro, Koto, Edogawa, Ota, Toshima, and Bunkyo

Delivery Times
Drop-off before 4:00 pm → Hotel delivery by 8:00 pm
Drop-off between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm → Hotel delivery by 10:00 pm

Step 2: Print Luggage Tags

Once you’ve received a QR code via email, scan it on the tablet screen. The information you just submitted will be displayed for verification, and if everything looks correct, you can go ahead and press the “print” button at the bottom right to print your luggage tags.

The tablet will print you three copies of your luggage delivery information, so first you’ll need to stick one copy to a luggage tag (available behind the tablet, pictured above). Secure that tag to your luggage, and give the remaining two tags to the counter staff. The staff will return one of those tags to you as a receipt, so be sure not to lose it!

Step 3: Counter Drop-Off & Hotel Pick-Up

After attaching the tag, your luggage is ready to go! Proceed to the counter on the left-hand side and hand your luggage over to the staff, who will ensure it gets delivered directly to your hotel. With your heavy bags taken care of, you’re now free to start your Tokyo adventure without anything weighing you down!

Useful Tips for Using Luggage Delivery

Deliverable Items & Pricing

This delivery service accepts luggage up to 160 cm in total size (width + depth + height), and the maximum weight per piece is 20 kg. The size limits include most standard luggage, so unless you’ve got a really monster suitcase, your luggage is likely to be eligible. If you’re not sure, you can always ask the counter staff, who can give you the most accurate answer!

This delivery service is, however, only for suitcases. Items such as backpacks, purses, reusable shopping bags, golf bags, and bicycles will not be accepted. The delivery fee is also per item, which means that regardless of the size of the suitcase, the fee remains 4,500 yen per piece.

Important Note: Delivery Eligibility

This Same-Day Delivery Service is only available for travelers staying in hotels. Luggage cannot be delivered to private residences or shared accommodations like an Airbnb. Please confirm that your accommodations are eligible before using the service!

Same-Day Luggage Day Is Especially Convenient For…

The Same-Day Delivery Service is a convenient option for anyone traveling through Haneda Airport. However, we think it will be especially helpful for a few kinds of travelers in particular. If you’re traveling for business, for example, the service makes it easy to go straight to meetings from the airport without the hassle of a bulky suitcase. For busy travelers planning to spend a weekend or just a couple of days in Tokyo as part of a larger trip, handing over large luggage right at the airport leaves much more time for enjoying the city! And serious shoppers or heavy packers with huge, hefty suitcases can avoid the trouble of dragging their bags through the city all the way to the hotel. Without luggage to worry about, there’s more freedom to enjoy an amazing trip to Tokyo!

Maximize Your First Day in Tokyo With Same-Day Delivery Service

Indulge in a Tokyo Food Tour As Soon as You Arrive

With so much amazing food in Tokyo and so little time, many travelers make it a mission to start exploring Tokyo’s many famous eateries as soon as they arrive. However, traveling all the way to the hotel to drop off luggage can take hours away from the first day of a Tokyo trip, which might mean missing lunch or dinner time, or even arriving after a certain delicacy has sold out for the day. With the Same-Day Delivery Service, you can save time and avoid the frustration of just trying to find something quick and easy around your hotel. Without all the extra baggage, the world (or in this case, Tokyo’s amazing dining scene) is your oyster. Take advantage of this convenient service, and dive right into the Tokyo food tour of your dreams!

Take a Trip to Tokyo’s Outskirts on Day One

The lively crowds and constant energy of Tokyo are certainly worth experiencing, but sometimes you want to see a different side of Japan, which is why short visits to nearby cities like Hakone and Kamakura have become popular in recent years. But the hassle of heavy luggage can discourage travelers from venturing out on the first day. If the fresh air and scenic views of an out-of-Tokyo day trip are calling out to you, though, the Same-Day Delivery Service can help make it simple to head directly to your destination and start filling up your travel itinerary from day one. Relax away the fatigue of a long plane ride with a little day trip to Hakone, famous for its onsen and under two hours from Tokyo. Or live out your anime dreams and enjoy a full day in the seaside setting of Kamakura, spotting the sunset behind the passing train cars before heading back to Tokyo. You can enjoy the whole day without worrying about your luggage, and return to the hotel to find it waiting for you!

Enjoy Your Tokyo Trip With Family & Older Relatives

Dealing with too many suitcases can be especially exhausting when traveling with older parents or young children, and it’s no fun to travel when everyone’s frustrated and tired. Lighten everyone’s load by sending your bags straight to the hotel from the airport, put everyone in a good mood, and get ready to enjoy the trip together!

Odaiba is a particularly family-friendly area in Tokyo, with observation decks looking out at Tokyo Bay and Rainbow Bridge, as well as large shopping malls like DiverCity and Aqua City, and easy access to Tokyo hot spring facilities and the interactive art exhibitions at TeamLab. Without the burden of carrying luggage around, families can explore and enjoy Tokyo to the fullest, from the moment they arrive in the city!

Cherries, tomatoes, and grapes are all cultivated in the area, and thanks to a growing local wine industry, it's quickly becoming a food and wine hotspot. Together with the neighboring town of Yoichi, it's a noted area for wine tourism.

    • Niseko is about two hours from New Chitose Airport, in the western part of Hokkaido. It's one of Japan's most noted winter resort areas, and a frequent destination for international visitors. That's all because of the super high-quality powder snow, which wins the hearts of beginners and experts alike, bringing them back for repeat visits. That's not all, though, it's also a great place to enjoy Hokkaido's culinary scene and some beautiful onsen (hot springs).

    • Otaru is in western Hokkaido, about 30 minutes from Sapporo Station. The city thrived around its busy harbor in the 19th and 20th centuries thanks to active trade and fishing, and the buildings remaining from that period are still popular attractions, centered around Otaru Canal. With its history as a center of fishing, it's no surprise that the area's fresh sushi is a must-try. Otaru has over 100 sushi shops, quite a few of which are lined up on Sushiya Dori (Sushi Street).
