Sooth your soul with a glimpse of some of Japan’s most beautiful scenery, like the deeply colored reflections of the Okama crater lake. #SeeYouSoonJapan
Mount Zao, Miyagi
This circular crater, named Okama (お釜) meaning pot/kettle for its shape, is found on Mount Zao, a dormant volcano that sits squarely on the border between Miyagi and Yamagata Prefectures. But it's even better known for its brilliant coloring, and Okama crater lake also goes by the nickname Goshikiko (五色湖) meaning lake of five colors. Depending on the weather and the time of day, the waters shine emerald green or bright turquoise, making for a beautiful display that attracts visitors near and far.
