(Read our Ultimate Guide to Comiket)
Tokyo’s Comic Market* has been at the heart of Japan’s otaku culture for so long that it’s celebrating its 45th anniversary, and over the years the market has grown into a major Tokyo event. Comic Market is now held twice a year (except when interrupted by pandemic), and it consistently draws more than 500,000 attendees (plus 35,000 publishing groups), who spread across the floors of Tokyo’s biggest convention center for the multi-day gathering. Tables from comic publishers and independent artists fill the halls, alongside the booths of people showing off upcoming video games, signing autographs for adoring fans, and selling clothing, accessories, board games, or stationery… you name it! Plus, there’s just about every other kind of table, display, and stage in between. It’s an event for fans of the latest Japanese manga and other pop culture, but also a sacred gathering place for even the most niche otaku, so no matter what kind of nerd you are, there’s something for you to enjoy at Comiket.
If you want to look at the full catalog of participants and a map detailing where every single booth will be, an online version (website registration necessary, but totally free) goes up a couple months before the event!
*If you’re a little confused by the name, don’t worry, Comiket and Comike are all nicknames for Tokyo’s big Comic Market!
